How We Work
Every organization we work with is different. The problems, the tools, the history. What doesn't change is how we show up.
We lead with purpose, not just process.
People, process, and technology all have to work together for any engagement to succeed. We look at all three regardless of where the work starts. A platform problem is often a process problem in disguise. A strategy question is often a technology limitation in practice. We don't fix the obvious thing and leave. We make sure the whole system holds up.
How We Show Up
We're proactive, personal, and direct. If something comes up on your project, you'll hear from us before you have to ask.
Every project has a dedicated project manager who knows the details inside and out. They're your day-to-day contact, keeping tasks moving, timelines honest, and both teams showing up and delivering. Our Client Services Director has eyes on every active project and is there for bigger account conversations whenever you need them.
We genuinely like the people we work with. Some of our best client relationships have turned into lasting friendships. We get to know your team, learn your mission, and care about what you're building. The work is serious but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We show up as full humans and we hope you will too.
You'll always know who to call and you'll always get a real answer.
How a Project Runs
We ask every client to name a point person on their end. One person who owns the client side of the project, shows up to meetings, and is accountable for getting us what we need to keep things moving. Projects stall when that accountability is missing and we're honest about that upfront.
We use a shared project management platform so nothing gets lost in email threads. Every task, decision, and conversation lives in one place. If someone on either team is out, anyone can jump in and get up to speed fast.
We also ask you to come prepared. Meetings are more valuable when everyone's done the work beforehand. Good work happens when both sides show up and honor their commitments. We take ours seriously and we ask the same from you. The client relationships we value most are built on mutual respect, and that's something we work hard to cultivate from day one.
What We Build Toward
The engagements we're proudest of have run for years, not months. That's when we get truly embedded as part of your team, when we understand your mission, your audience, and your goals well enough to bring our platform and landscape expertise to bear in ways that actually move the needle for you.
You know your constituents and your mission better than anyone. We know the tools and the broader landscape. When those two things work together, that's when the really good work happens.
Every milestone that makes your team more efficient or your constituents better served is worth celebrating. The impact on the communities you serve is honestly why we show up every day.
"Leslie never settles for simply completing a project. She asks thoughtful questions, pushes back when something can be improved, anticipates challenges before they become problems, and genuinely invests in the long-term success of our program. She approaches our work as a true strategic partner rather than a vendor, and that distinction makes all the difference."
— Scott Larimore, Director of Development Events, Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University
When Things Go Sideways
Things go wrong sometimes. A deliverable misses the mark, expectations drift, a deadline slips. It's rare, but it happens on both sides. Pretending otherwise wouldn't be honest. And when it does, we own it.
When calls get missed or deadlines slip without a heads up, it affects the project timeline. But it also affects morale and the trust we're all working hard to build. We understand everyone is busy. We're not asking for perfection. We're asking for communication. A quick note goes a long way toward giving each other grace and keeping the team moving well together.
When something is on us, we own it. Stephanie and Jen will get on a call, talk it through honestly, and find a path forward that works for everyone.
One thing that isn't negotiable: mutual respect. We work hard for our clients and we take that seriously. We ask that you treat our team the way you'd want yours treated.
What We Won't Do
We don't low-ball estimates to win business and then pad the project with change orders once work is underway. That drives us crazy when other agencies do it and we won't do it to you.
We quote what the work actually costs. We're honest about timeline and about what we'll need from your team to pull it off. We might be more expensive than some other agencies, but we build things to last and we build them so you can maintain them without us. That saves you real money over the long haul. Shopping on price often means the solutions are fragile, consultant-dependent, and expensive to fix later.
If we can't do something or don't know enough to build it with confidence, we'll tell you. We'd rather refer you to someone who can than take on work we can't deliver well.
We also don't pretend we know more than you do about your organization, your constituents, or your mission. You bring expertise we don't have. The best work we do happens when both sides bring their full knowledge to the table.
This Has to Work for Both of Us
We're selective about who we work with. Some clients are a great fit and some aren't. That's ok and it goes both ways.
The best client relationships we've had share a few things in common: values alignment, mutual respect, and a genuine belief that this kind of work matters. When those things are present the work is better, the relationship lasts longer, and both teams are proud of what they built together.
So yes, we can say no. And sometimes we do. If the fit isn't there we'd rather tell you early than waste your time and ours.
If you're thinking about reaching out, skip the formal RFP. Seriously. It's a ton of free work for agencies and it rarely finds you the right team anyway. Do your homework, talk to people who've had great agency relationships, then get on a call and meet us. You'll know pretty quickly if we're your people.
